Stephen Ireland started playing for the side during pre-season this summer through close friend and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked other former professionals, who all compete in a midweek small-sided match, to participate.

Former Senegalese striker Niasse, who netted twelve scores in 65 top-flight matches for the Toffees and still goes to their matches at Goodison Park, also had his debut against the opposition - who are based in the city and wear an Everton warm-up gear as their uniform.

"My friend Stephen said 'come and play, it's enjoyable'," commented Niasse.

"Then he informed me we were playing a side from Liverpool and the shock I had when I saw them wearing Blue shirts - I say this is strange for me!

"Those fans who turn up and watch are pleased and to make a moment if they watch us playing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the pleasure of us getting somewhere we can play, with organisation of course."

So great is the squad depth at the club, Niasse had his debut at full-back.

"That's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The movement is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."
